 Looking for a full-time architectural designer with a strong focus in participatory design, sustainable design and hands-on design-build experience. This six month post will begin in Nov 15 2015 and will be located in rural Nepal. 

Job description

We are an interdisciplinary group with an interest in employing participatory and sustainable approaches to design and planning in order to catalyze environmental conservation. We are looking for an interdisciplinary architectural designer starting Nov 15th to May 15th to work in Nepal. The architectural designer will be an integral part of the team as we detail the designs for an information station and an eco-agriculture resource centre in Yangshila. We will also be developing a mapping project to train local youth to document plant species found within the Lower BELT corridor. We also have two post-disaster contexts that require planning and design work. Although this is a volunteer position, all travel and living expenses will be provided. 



Assist in the survey, design and planning of a Learning Centre in Kavre district. 

Document and survey BELT plots, walkways, school plots using GIS, AutoCAD and other mapping software. 

Assist in the participatory mapping project to map the lower BELT region. 

Work collaboratively with the local community, designers and environmentalists to develop designs and landscape demonstrations for Yangshila’s Lower BELT masterplan and a walkway. 

Hold community workshops, document the feedback and integrate the response into the final design. 

Detail the schematic design of the eco-agriculture resource centre and oversee construction. 

Transcription and rendering of design plans into 2d and 3d software 

Develop community design and presentation packages, renderings, 3d and physical models 

Produce booklets, presentations and exhibits to enable community validation and government partnerships 



Bachelors or Masters in Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Urban Design. 

Atleast one year experience working in a design firm. 

Preference will be given to a candidate with prior experience in design-build projects and volunteer work 

Excellent knowledge of ArcGIS, Adobe Suite, SketchUp and other 3d sofware
